Tim Walsh accepted the New Jersey Nets’ top athletic trainer position in 2000, after three seasons as head athletic trainer of the Orlando Magic. Walsh carries the distinction of being the NBA’s first full-time assistant athletic trainer, accepting the New York Knicks’ position under longtime head athletic trainer Mike Saunders in 1984. He stayed in New York for 13 seasons until taking the Magic’s top post in 1997.

Walsh was athletic trainer for the 2003 U.S. Men’s Senior National Basketball Team and alternate athletic trainer for the Eastern Conference at the 2002 NBA All-Star Game in Philadelphia. He and Indiana Pacers head athletic trainer David Craig provided athletic healthcare coverage for the U.S. Men’s Basketball Team at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

In addition to serving as athletic trainer for the Staten Island Stallions of the United States Basketball League in 1986-87, Walsh has provided athletic healthcare services at Walt Frazier’s Annual Basketball Camp and the “Bernie and Ernie All-Pro Basketball Camp” conducted by Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld in the late 1980s. He frequently lectures to students and peers about athletic healthcare and injury prevention.

Walsh is a past chairman of the NBATA, and is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and National Academy of Sports Medicine, he is also a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

The Newark, N.J., native developed an interest in athletic healthcare as a two-sport high school athlete at Essex High School, where he was named “Outstanding Athlete” for his accomplishments in football and baseball. As a catcher at Upsala College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology, Walsh helped lead his team to three NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament appearances.  In 2009, Walsh was inducted into the Newark Athletic  Hall of Fame for his play in football and baseball during hi academic career.

Tim and his wife Kathy live with their daughter, Lauren Frances, and son, Stephen Phillip, in Washington Township, N.J.

In his fourth season as the Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Nets, Matt Reicher works closely with Tim Walsh in the teams immediate medical Needs throughout the year. Prior to being named Assistant Athletic Trainer, Reicher served as the team’s Assistant Equipment Manager during the 2005-2006 season.

Reicher currently resides in New City, New York. He is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association and National Academy of Sports medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES).
